First Maryland Export Day Celebrated on May 25th with Proclamation From Gov. Hogan

Maryland Export Day Proclamation

The proclamation from Governor Hogan recognizes May 25th as “Maryland Export Day” and acknowledges the strength of Maryland exports, as well as exporting’s critical role for Maryland businesses and the local economy, during World Trade Month. In his remarks, Lt. Governor Rutherford recognized how assistance from the Commercial Service, as well as the Maryland/D.C. District Export Council, enables Maryland businesses to meet their exporting goals, promoting economic growth and job creation. Also represented at the virtual event were Senator Van Hollen and Executive Director of the Port of Baltimore, William Doyle.

New Assessment and Revenue Management System for Exports to Canada

This free webinar on the Canada Border Services Agency’s Assessment and Revenue Management System (CARM) will guide exporters to Canada through the new system being implemented by CBSA in Spring 2022.  

The new CARM system will provide importers with access to their trade information and account balances, direct payment solutions, and other trade tools. Additionally, the new system will be mandatory for U.S. non-resident importers, so this is an excellent opportunity to discover how the new CARM system will work for future use.

Applications to the President’s Advisory Council on Doing Business in Africa

Applications Being Accepted Via Email Until June 25, 2021 @ 5 PM (ET) 

The U.S. Department of Commerce is currently seeking applications for membership on the President’s Advisory Council on Doing Business in Africa (PAC-DBIA), which advises the President on ways to strengthen commercial engagement between the United States and African countries. Up to 26 executives will be selected from small, medium, and large U.S. companies across a diverse range of industries and economic sectors to serve as Council Members for a two-year term. 

Applications for immediate consideration are due by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on June 25, 2021. After that, the Department of Commerce will continue to accept applications on a rolling basis to fill any vacancies that may arise. Applications should be submitted by email to dbia@trade.gov and applicants can contact Ashley Bubna with any questions.
